Fiberglass – Standing Against the Elements
Fiberglass – Standing Against the Elements
One thing that you can guarantee about fiberglass exterior doors, they will stand whatever the weather throws at them. Which is a good thing, as all exterior doors are subject to all kinds of weather which can damage many door types.
Sun and heat can cause wood to crack, water and damp can cause it to rot away... in short most wood doors, whilst very stylish, can become of little use very quickly thanks to the weather. Not so with fiberglass exterior doors which are able to stand up to almost anything that can br thrown at it (as yet untested in a lightning strike).
Fiberglass - Standing up to the elements
Did you know that fiberglass is not just used for fiberglass exterior doors, it has a range of other uses. Most notably is being used in a number of smaller boat designs. This is because fiberglass is lightweight but also very strong and far less likely to be damaged by long term water usage than even treated wood.
This shows us that the science of boat making has come to understand just how much better fiberglass is at withstanding the elements compared to wood – when for centuries wood had been traditionally used in that sort of boat making.
So it should come as no surprise that door makers are following their lead and coming to understand the importance and strength of fiberglass exterior doors vs wooden ones.
Thankfully there is little by way of 'trade off' between the two – whilst wood gives a lot of style it is now possible to buy fiberglass exterior doors in wood effect, a style so good it is almost impossible to distinguish from the real thing. This means that you can get the look and style of a wooden door, but with the strength and survivability of a fiberglass exterior door.
